Nanostructured Filters in Shipping

Nanostructured Filters in Shipping

According to the European Environment Agency, merchant ships discharge 204 times more sulfur than one billion cars on the roads worldwide. To make a more detailed idea ... Personal car having a mileage of 15,000 km a year produces a little over 100 grams of sulfur dioxide, whereas the largest cargo ships produce even more than 5,000 tons per year. Thus shipping contributes to global emissions of nitrogen oxides up to 30%, sulfur oxides a little less than 10% and the carbon dioxide of 4.5%. Of course, not only environmental activists but also the governments of the countries involved do not like this. Therefore, the International Maritime Organization adopted stricter emission limits, which, however, will take effect in 2020, but now it is necessary to work on alternatives for possible emission reductions.

Nanotechnology applications

Nanotechnology has huge range of applications like Electronics, Medicine, Chemistry, Biology, Army and many more.
Nanotechnology can improve the capabilities of electronic components like display, memory chips, tranzistors, and many more. Nanotechnology research is using in practical applications very fast, but lots of applications are still waiting for use.
Research in nanotechnology is not still finished and we want to write about new applications all world.

WHAT IS NANOTECHNOLOGY?

About Nanotechnology we speak when we want to work with materials and processes at the nanoscale, typically, but not exclusively, below 100 nanometres in one or more dimensions where the onset of size-dependent phenomena usually enables novel applications.

Nanoscience and nanotechnology is a very promising field. It is the study of extremely small things in different domains of science. Glass staining with gold or silver particles are kind of ancient nanotechnology. Richard Feynman has been credited with coming up with the concept of nanotechnology. In 1959 he gave a talk called "There´s Plenty of Room at the Bottom" where he described a process in which scientists would be able to manipulate and control individual atoms.

Simplest method of measuring nanoparticles’ size and size distribution on the surface and on sub-surface layers

Recently there has been an emphasis for characterizing nanostructured materials such as twodimensional (2D) and zero-dimensional (0D) materials. For example, graphene, carbon nanotubes, etc. are two-dimensional (2D) materials. Quantum dots (QDs) [1] is an example of a zero-dimensional (0D) material because the nano particles of the QDs do not form a network; instead they remain by themselves. See ref [2] for a review of 0D, 1D, etc. materials.

Global warming continues to be a growing concern for scientists worldwide. If action is not taken now, global warming could change the world as we know it, making it an uninhabitable place. Not only will animals that rely on the environment die out and become extinct, but it would develop conditions that humans cannot withstand either. As a result, governments around the world are now making global warming one of their primary concerns, for the sake of continuing life on this planet.

The Jamestown Foundation Nanotechnology for Military

The Jamestown Foundation Nanotechnology for Military

Launched in 1984 after Jamestown's late president and founder William Geimer's work with Arkady Shevchenko, the highest-ranking Soviet official ever to defect when he left his position as undersecretary general of the United Nations, the Jamestown Foundation rapidly became the leading source of information about the inner workings of closed totalitarian societies.
Jamestown's work has contributed directly to the spread of democracy and personal freedom in the former Communist Bloc countries. In the 1980s the foundation assisted such key experts as former high-ranking Soviet diplomat Arkady Shevchenko, and former top Romanian intelligence officer Ion Pacepa, whose revelations about their governments -- which then directly challenged the United States -- were unprecedented and singularly important.
